Which five words best describe you? determined, curious, observant, caring, crazy.
Where do you find your inspiration? relationships with nature and people.
How did you get your career start and whatpath have you taken since? I started showing artwork at Kiowa Gallery in Alpine, Texas in the early 90’s and have slowly built up a body of work and a following.
What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt along the way? Don’t push too hard, and be open to different paths of expression.
What’s your proudest career achievement? I’m most pleased when an idea comes to fruition, as when an idea meets the canvas. Being the honored Artwalk Artist for 2011 will let me share those moments as well as support other artists.
What’s been your best decision? The decision to not give up on my art.
Who inspires you? Friends and artists who share their work with me.
What are you passionate about? Quality over Quantity
Which person, living or dead, would you mostlike to meet? I’ve met David Byrne, but I’d really like to talk with him or just follow him around for a day.
What dream do you still want to fulfill? To teach art classes
What are you reading? Jumping betwwen Dennis Lehane’s Coronado and Graeme Gibson’s The Bedside Book of Birds: An Avian Miscellany
What is your favorite recipe- would you like to share it? My fave thing to cook is a simple Salmon dish – canola oil in a skillet or dutch oven. 1st layer – salmon filets, butter slices, fresh chopped garlic, and then layer the top with vegetables: onion, squash, etc. Put the lid on and cook on gas stove, in an oven or with coals (2:1 coal ration top of dutch oven:below dutch oven – How long? 30-40 minutes? let it sizzle til the vegs are cooked and the salmon is still tender. Serve with rice. mmmmm.
What sustainable mission are you on? Would you like to share it? Keep it simple and take less showers. Support your local farmer’s market.
Do you have asustainable project or a project you would like to share? Our home is self-built with rocks from the land and we use rainwater catchment and solar power.
Is there a word of advise you would like to share? Take a deep breath and relax before you tackle a bear or any overwhelming endeavor.
Did you have a mentor and how did your mentor help you? I have mentors who share their expertise and I listen.
Do you have any mentoring words you would like to share? Take frustrations and obstacles and turn them into learning curves. Ask for help when you need it. Don’t pull out your hair when the image on your computer screen does not come close to what you just printed out on your new printer.
